60% of industry leaders identify security and ease of use as leading priorities in the Car Connectivity Consortium’s new report on global trends and innovations shaping the connected vehicle ecosystem
The Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC), a global leader in defining how vehicles interact with devices and their environments, has released its inaugural 2025 Future of Vehicle Connectivity Report. This comprehensive study offers an inside look at how the global automotive and technology industries are aligning around secure, seamless, and user-friendly vehicle connectivity as the foundation for innovation and growth.
The report captures insights from more than 250 industry leaders across 20+ countries, including automakers, Tier 1 suppliers, smart device manufacturers, and technology providers. Collectively, these companies represent CCC’s vast membership base of over 300 organizations, encompassing every major region and segment of the connected vehicle ecosystem.
With Deloitte projecting the software-defined vehicle (SDV) market to reach up to $600 billion by 2030, the CCC’s findings come at a pivotal moment. The industry is transitioning from experimentation to large-scale adoption of technologies that enable vehicles to communicate intelligently with smartphones, infrastructure, and the cloud—creating a connected ecosystem that enhances safety, convenience, and personalization.
Driving a Secure, Seamless, and Standardized Future
According to the report, security and ease of use are now the defining pillars of vehicle connectivity. Nearly 60% of respondents cited privacy, security, and simplicity as the top priorities when developing and deploying connected vehicle technologies. This consensus underscores how consumer trust and intuitive experiences are becoming central to the industry’s success.
Our mission has always been to unify how vehicles and devices work together – securely and without friction,” said Alysia Johnson, President of the Car Connectivity Consortium. “This survey not only validates where the industry is headed but reinforces why CCC’s work to develop global technology standards and foster collaboration across automakers, suppliers, and technology providers is more critical than ever.”
Key Insights from the 2025 Future of Vehicle Connectivity Report
- Security and Ease of Use Lead Consumer Demands
A majority of CCC members identified privacy, data security, and ease of use as the most important factors driving consumer adoption of connected vehicle technologies. - Fleet Management and Tracking Fuel Innovation
About 72% of respondents cited GPS fleet tracking as delivering significant operational value, while 62% highlighted fleet management applications—including rentals, rideshares, and logistics—as major growth opportunities. - Connectivity Investments Yield Tangible Returns
Over half of fleet operators reported a positive return on investment (ROI) within a year, driven by the use of predictive analytics, asset tracking, and other smart data-driven connectivity solutions. - Interoperability Technologies Take Center Stage
As vehicles become more digitally integrated, interoperability—the ability for systems and devices to work seamlessly across brands—has become essential.- 82% of respondents identified connected car access and interoperability as top strategic priorities.
- 84% pointed to Bluetooth® Low Energy (LE), 77% to Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and 75% to Near-Field Communication (NFC) as critical technologies enabling secure, convenient connectivity.
From Promise to Progress
“The data highlights how the connected vehicle industry is moving from promise to progress,” said Ian Televik, Marketing Director at the CCC. “Security and simplicity are now table stakes, and interoperability is the bridge connecting it all. CCC delivers that interoperability by developing global standards and a certification program that ensure connected experiences work reliably across brands and devices.”
Indeed, CCC’s initiatives—such as its Digital Key™ specification, which enables secure smartphone-based vehicle access, and efforts around standardized data exchange—are already shaping how consumers experience connected mobility worldwide.
As vehicles evolve into software-defined platforms, collaboration and standardization will play a defining role in ensuring that innovation does not come at the cost of privacy, safety, or convenience.
