Wiley, a global leader in research intelligence and academic publishing, has launched Wiley AI Gateway, an innovative AI-native research intelligence platform designed to connect researchers, publishers, and AI systems through a single, trusted access point. This marks a major milestone in the evolution of AI-assisted research, offering direct access to peer-reviewed, authoritative content from top scholarly publishers across the globe.

Unlike many closed ecosystems that restrict users to proprietary tools, Wiley AI Gateway is built on interoperability and openness, allowing seamless integration of scholarly content into today’s leading AI systems. The platform connects directly with Anthropic’s Claude, AWS Marketplace, Mistral AI’s Le Chat, and Perplexity, enabling researchers to interact with verified scientific information across their preferred AI interfaces.

“Wiley AI Gateway transforms how researchers harness AI for scientific discovery by integrating trusted, peer-reviewed content directly into their daily AI workflows,” said Jay Flynn, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Research & Learning at Wiley. “As AI adoption among researchers surged from 57% to 84% in just one year, we recognized the need to meet them where they work. This platform ensures that AI-powered research is grounded in validated scholarly sources, positioning quality content as the cornerstone of reliable scientific discovery.”

A New Standard for AI-Powered Research Integrity

At its core, the Wiley AI Gateway is designed to preserve academic rigor in the AI era. Using advanced content transformation technologies, the platform converts scholarly and expert materials into AI-optimized formats without compromising citation accuracy, methodological details, or peer-review integrity.

Built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the Gateway allows AI systems to comprehend, analyze, and cite research material with high precision—enabling AI-generated insights that are both scientifically sound and verifiable.

Currently available to beta customers, Wiley AI Gateway provides substantial advantages to key stakeholders across the research ecosystem:

  • Universities and Research Institutions:
Scholars and students can use familiar AI interfaces to synthesize cross-disciplinary literature, ensuring all outputs are anchored to peer-reviewed sources rather than unverified data.
  • Corporate R&D Teams:
The Gateway accelerates innovation by providing AI access to validated scientific knowledge across multiple domains, allowing faster experimentation and more accurate research insights.
  • AI Development Partners:
By integrating peer-reviewed content feeds, developers can train AI models that are free from hallucinations and bias, resulting in more trustworthy and knowledge-grounded applications.

Empowering Publishers While Protecting Content

One of Wiley’s strategic priorities is to empower publishers to maintain independence while ensuring their content contributes to the global research ecosystem. Wiley AI Gateway allows any publisher—regardless of platform—to connect securely to leading AI systems, managing how their content is accessed, used, and credited.

Early collaborators include SAGE Publishing and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), both of which are also Wiley Atypon customers. Additional global publishers are expected to join, helping to establish a broad, industry-wide framework for responsible, AI-driven knowledge dissemination.

“The AI Gateway expands Claude’s research capabilities by connecting it directly to peer-reviewed content,” said Lauren Collett, who leads Higher Education partnerships at Anthropic. “Researchers can now seamlessly combine trusted scientific literature with Claude’s analytical capabilities—from statistical analysis to code generation—unlocking entirely new research workflows while maintaining the rigorous standards that scientific discovery demands.”

Building on a Legacy of AI Collaboration

The launch of Wiley AI Gateway builds on a series of AI partnerships and initiatives established by Wiley in 2025. Among these are collaborations with the European Space Agency’s Φ-lab, which is using the Gateway to integrate scholarly literature into its Earth Virtual Expert (EVE)—an AI system supporting earth observation research.

Additionally, Wiley partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop the first generative AI agent for scientific literature search hosted on the AWS platform. This collaboration ensures that researchers have fast, reliable access to relevant publications and datasets through the AWS Marketplace, streamlining the path from data discovery to innovation.

“Researchers have access to more data than ever before, but finding it remains a challenge,” said Dan Sheeran, General Manager of Healthcare and Life Sciences at AWS. “Data is the foundation for AI innovation, and AWS continues to invest in giving researchers the latest AI tools to accelerate scientific breakthroughs. By making Wiley’s AI Gateway accessible through AWS Marketplace, scientists can focus less on data procurement and more on meaningful innovation.”

Leading the Future of Research in the AI Era

As AI continues to redefine the boundaries of scientific research, Wiley AI Gateway stands at the intersection of trust, transparency, and technology. By transforming how researchers and AI systems interact with verified knowledge, Wiley is setting a new global standard for how academic content fuels discovery.

Through its interoperable design, commitment to integrity, and partnerships with leading AI and academic organizations, Wiley is ensuring that the next generation of AI-driven research remains grounded in truth, validated by experts, and empowered by accessibility.

In a landscape where misinformation and data overload challenge the credibility of AI outputs, Wiley’s approach underscores a simple yet powerful vision: scientific progress must be built on trusted knowledge.
